Vanos relearn

Hi guys, if you do not own a Diagnostics scanner that can do a Vanos reset/relearn after a timing chain replacement, will it automatically relearn over time? The one I have does show the degrees requested for each cam shaft and the actual, and they virtually match at different rpm, does that mean it does not need a relearn?

I've replaced my chain a couple times and done several rebuilds that involved setting timing. Never had a "vanos reset/relearn" performed and the engine is running fine. Vanos is also OEM --- maybe it needs "reset/relearn" when being replaced? The only scanner I have is an old AccessPort --- reset ECU, clear codes, datalog, and monitor is about all it can do.
