The US for me is the better plce to be in terms of car enthusiasts /gear heads but sadly its where Im based here in the UK
Since I don't know what you guys (the UK) do for weekend hot rodding, I can't comment, but yes, in general, there are hundreds of things to do on the weekends, just in the Sothern California area. Even most weekdays there are automotive oriented thigs going on.
BUT...most of it is oriented toward American car hot rodding. Yes, there are the odd "off shore" car gatherings, but it's probably more like 10 to 1 American (1967 and earlier) car to offshore car gatherings. Sometimes, even in the same city, you can find different groups having weekend gatherings.
Since I'm new to the Mini thing, and much more part of the American car enthusiast (have three pre 1955 American cars). While I continue to look for Mini gatherings, at easy driving distances, I continue to find none, or VERY few. I found one last year (maybe it was 2 years back) from a fellow Mini driver through this forum, but he refused to let me know the day and time. He told me where...but not when..! WTF..?
I went to a BMW gathering two years ago (Auto Club Raceway in Fontana), There musta be all of 6 or 7 Minis there. I was the oddball out there, since my tires didn't hang out of the fenders !
Anyway, yeah, an all JCW or even a Mini gathering not too far away would be a nice change.
