R57 Oscillating vibration at high speeds
Oscillating vibration at high speeds
Hi friends,
I drive a 2014 R57, base model. This past winter, I was turning in a round-about (~15 mph) when my car slid and slammed the front passenger side tire into a curb. The car drove away fine and I continued to drive it for the next couple months without noticeable issue as I was only traveling in town (40 mph max). Then when I finally got on the highway at high speeds, the car pulled significantly to the right... I was super busy for a couple months, and with COVID, I didn't need to drive it much so I waited to fix it. Eventually, I got around to it and thought that it was likely the passenger half shaft. I changed that out, but the issue continued. I took it into a mechanic, and he changed the tie rods out, did a tire balance, and an alignment. It is now very much driveable without any pulling, but there is an oscillating-like vibration at high speeds. It's almost as if with every other half turn there is a vibration. If I'm in the left lane of the highway, I can turn the steering wheel slightly to the right based upon the crown of the road and the vibration will go away. If I'm in the left lane, or going around a curve to the left, the vibration is present, but again no pulling or car shakiness. Also, the vibration feels like it's right underneath the pedals. I jacked up the driver's side the other day and looked for any noticeable damage to the half shaft, but it appeared to be in solid condition. There wasn't any looseness or clunking when I rocked on the half shaft. I also attempted to wiggle the tire from 3 and 9 o'clock, and then from 6 and 12 o'clock, but nothing loose there. I'm kind of out of ideas of what could be wrong. The tires are new. Brakes appear to be working fine, so I ruled down any caliper issues. It seems like it's an obvious thing given that the vibrations go away with slight turning of the steering to the right as opposed to the left, but I don't have enough experience with this kind of damage to accurately know what's happening... I was hoping someone on here may have some insight. Thank you in advance!
