JCW 6spd ECU - Usable in Auto?
JCW 6spd ECU - Usable in Auto?
Hello All,
A friend of mine wrecked her 2006 JCW 6spd. (The frame is tweaked beyond repair and the transmission housing cracked open right at the differential and the ring gear smacked the frame rail).
With the insurance payout she was able to buy a decent 2006 "S" Automatic and also buy out the wrecked JCW. Her original plan, (before I found the aforementioned cracked transmission housing), was to convert the Auto to 6spd. Since the 6spd transmission is now trash she has decided to keep the Auto as is but would like to get a little more power.
1) Can the 6 spd JCW ECU be swapped into the Auto? Anything I should worry about?
2) Does any coding need to be changed for the auto transmission to be recognized by the 6spd ECU?
3) Does the ECU interface with the TCU?
4) I know the ECU connectors are physically the same but was wondering if the pinout changes in any way from the 6spd to the Auto?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

not sure of 1st gens, but speaking from 2nd gen experience; the ecu itself is not enough for the swap. you need to make sure all JCW specific sensors are also transferred. then, you have to marry or pair the ecu to the ews/immobilizer. once all of these conditions are met, then you can start trouble shoot any code that comes up.
It is possible, but not really worth it. You'd have to make sure and grab the head, fuel injectors, supercharger pulley, intake, and exhaust to get the performance back. Then have the ECU remapped for the automatic, but it is doable in an R53.
takes a bunch of work, needs automatic jcw bin file loaded, immobilzer must be disabled and the vin changed. then the module options set in ncsexpert (auto, ac type, alt type)
if it's something you need it usually costs 150-200 depending on how much work is needed but I am not sure I have the file for a automatic, might need adrians help and the price goes up a little
