front service mode... less charging to make a fix?

There is an oil leak on the oil filter housing of my 2008 R56S. Talking to the technician, i realised that although he was working for many years for BMW, he was not aware of the FrontEndService mode. And that raised an ethical question. Should the client educate the technician? If the tech uses the Front Service Mode i believe its easier, but should he charge less for the service, i guess he would be working faster and a lot easier... no?

One more thing... can anyone help me locate the oil filter housing of my 2008 R56S in real oem site (i cant)?

Even though Mini is owned by BMW doesn’t mean the technicians know both brands. Front end service position seems to be a very Mini specific operation.

Here is your filter housing page:

The front service position makes it easier to handle many tasks in the engine bay of the Mini. It will certainly help with the oil filter housing R&R.

This is not an ethical issue! Inform your tech and/or find a Mini experienced tech!

This service mode for the most part is an option. Look at this way. Alignments are usually flat fee. That fee includes adjusting everything possible that is out of spec. If the car only needs say the left rear toe and front toe adjusted the cost is usually the same. Just like as if you have to adjust both rear camber, toe, both front camber and toe the price will be the same. the time paid is the same to the tech no matter how many adjustments are made. If the tech can get it in and out without ruining anything (hacking up) then he is rewarded. Remember most of the time when it takes longer than billed time that is at the cost to techs hours earned. A side note those book times are also not taking into account a vehicle with 50-100k on the clock with rusted hardware ,brittle plastics or stuck connectors etc. Times charged are based on warranty scenarios where the tech requires no approval for repairs, the parts are in stock and they can instantly repair the vehicle with no down time. Unless everyone wants to switch over to a system where we pay straight time instead of book or flat rate time.
Dont get me started on grid.
