I got my car back from service at the dealer and my CarPlay wouldn’t connect. I thought, no big deal, just delete my device and reconnect. But I’ve been at wits end since then because it won’t connect to CarPlay anymore at all. It connects to Bluetooth just fine.
I’ve tried just about everything short of factory resetting the phone (iPhone 11, iOS 14.5.1).
Reset network settings on phone
Restarted phone
Deleted all WiFi and Bluetooth connections (ugh)
Reset head unit to factory coding then reinstalled CarPlay.
Verified date/time are correct on both car and phone
Dealer won’t touch it because it’s a flashed unit (new graphic UI installed). And I don’t know if it’s the phone or the car, but CarPlay was working fine that morning and not fine when I picked it up.
I’m out of ideas. Anyone have any ideas or willing to help a guy out?
First things first: a HUGE thank you to sb2002 and ndal for navigating this nightmare with me.
So the result: it was definitely a bug between my phone and car. We never determined exactly what it was. I don’t think it is something that others will ever see to this extent. We ended up re-flashing my car to a virgin state and reactivating things. Initially, even that didn’t work.
In the end, I had to connect the phone with non-fullscreen CarPlay, and only then I was able to get the phone to successfully connect when fullscreen CarPlay was active. But even that took multiple toggling to get it to work.

I’m interested to know how you flashed your car back to factory. I’m having a very similar issue with my BMW F30, where I flashed CarPlay on to it and now I’m getting the “Not able to establish connection” error. Thanks in advance!
Try deleting car on iPhone side, and iPhone on car side and try again. Eventually it will work.
Done it, works 40% of the time. That’s why I asked about how I could reset head unit to factory deleting CarPlay so that I could start from scratch and see if it help solve the issue.

Anybody can help? I’ve tried pretty much everything I could think of after reading numerous threads online, except for anything having to do with e-sys.
im having the same issue. Worked fine Labor Day weekend then the next day wouldn’t work.
how is everyone fixing the issue? I’ve removed the car from the phone and vice versa and it’s not working.
