Just thought I’d share my experience here. After many an hour of searching, I didn’t find much for the R60 crowd.
I recently purchased a 2014 Countryman S for my daughter. Wonderful car. She LOVES it!
That said, I knew something was up with the turbo. Nothing seemed “right”. Even my wife said something was up. So I started looking into it, and sure enough, the turbo wasn’t building boost as it should. Assuming it was a wastegate wear issue, I removed the turbo for inspection.
Much to my surprise, the wastegate, sleeve, shaft, etc showed almost no wear whatsoever! Turns out the previous owner had recently replaced the turbo with a Stigan K03.
But here’s the thing...Stigan didn’t properly peen the sleeve in place. The sleeve was loose in the bore, and when it walked out, it allowed the gate to catch on the housing, which meant it couldn’t seal properly.
All I had to do was put the sleeve back in place and properly peen it in. Went from 9.7lbs boost to 15.9lbs. Night and day difference as one would expect.
I said all of that to say this, it’s worth your time to find out what’s up. About 3 hours later, I had a fun little ride, my daughter was tickled, and I saved $$$.
