Help! 2884

Hi guys,

As the title states, I’ve got an issue here on a 2007 MCS, tried absolutely everything, replaced almost every single part, new JCW turbo following a recent full engine build undertaken by myself. I’m yet to install the JCW map sensors as the car hasn’t had its remap yet and once installed simply throw an EML for the sensors plausibility, but I’ve read on other forums that the JCW turbo should run fine on the stock MCS ECU file with stock sensors?? (Until remapped ofc)

Keep getting 2884 thrown but only at continuous boost at WOT which puts it into limp mode (power returns a after ignition is cycled). I can floor it from standstill and I’ll have full power and won’t trigger the EML for 2884. Done all of the usual checks for the wastegate even though it’s brand new. I’ve replaced the pressure converter, all vacuum hoses, smoke tested the whole system. Has a new airtec intercooler and forge charge pipes. New ilkr8e6 plugs correctly gapped with new NGK ignition coils. Almost everything has been replaced. I’m getting getting rather fed up with it now and don’t want to keep throwing money at it!

Could my fault be due to the JCW map sensors not yet being installed/car not being remapped yet?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Regards,
Zak

My guess for that code has something related to running the JCW turbo on the S tune, and under certain conditions the boost is just more than expected.

Hi, firstly thank you for such a speedy response. This has also crossed my mind, but I’m a bit doubtful just by reading the vast number of forums that imply the FJCW turbo simply bolts on w/o triggering an EML.

Just to add the car has a catless downpipe. Could this cause such an issue due to 0 back pressure?

Catless down pipe might cause the turbo to spool a little bit quicker, giving an overboost scenario... possible its related. I would get in touch with a tuner sooner rather than later to get it all set right.

For anyone wondering/experiencing the same issue as me... I’ve finally managed to sort it!

I was sure it wasn’t down to not being tuned yet as many others on here have successfully installed JCW turbos w/o triggering any EML/limp mode - the problem was a faulty wastegate actuator on the NEW turbocharger (ikr?!) with a handheld vacuum pump I could see that the gauge would slowly but surely drop back to 0” after a few seconds.. consequently not allowing the wastegate to seal fully at higher pulls.

Clearly the diaphragm within the actuator has a tear or simply doesn’t seal. Hopefully this helps anyone in a similar situation!
