wiring issue

I replaced the engine on my wife's 2008 mini cooper base. Had everything apart. I get it back together. I end up with and extra wire coming from the left side. Can someone please tell me what the wire is for and where it is supposed to go. I have no existing connector. Will this non connection cause engine to have random misfire?

Thanks I just realized the vanos solenoid below the dip stick bracket is totally missing. You cannot see the hole for the vanos. I simply (dumb ***) forgot the vanos after the head rebuilt Thank You
