Anyone using the Podfreq?

http://www.podfreq.com/

I saw a link to this product in another iPod thread (thanks, karvinbass!), but no one responded to the mention, and a search doesn't turn up any previous discussion. Is anyone actually using this product? Seems like a high-quality FM transmitter. Obviously, this isn't the optimal way to go sound-wise, but frankly I'm completely turned off by all of the false claims and problems (not to mention the expense) surrounding the Icelink, and none of the alternatives that I've seen seem to be worth the money. Oh if only my car (a 9/2002 build '03 model year Cooper) included an AUX jack like it's supposed to...

Price is roughly $100, and includes a charger. There are other, cheaper FM transmitters out there, but this one seems to blow them away. I'm probably within a day or two of ordering unless someone really tears it apart for me. If someone told me I could get an AUX jack installed for less than $150, that might change my mind, too. I'm too exhausted after reading all the Icelink info (here, and on motoringfile and mini2) to research that right now.

Thanks!
Chris

P.S. I have the 20G, 4th generation iPod in case that makes any difference.

Just found this not-so-complimentary review, with interesting commentary and bickering posted down at the bottom. Looks like this review was written by a competitor of sorts, and after reading the rebuttals, and seeing that the Podfreq can be had for under $80, I'm still leaning toward it (my iPod was a gift, so $80 doesn't seem so bad!). The iTrip transmitter sounds very temperamental in comparison.

Here's another nice review that's more complimentary:

Not being much of a technogeek, I'd appreciate any reaction that anyone has to this product.

Thanks!
Chris

I haven't tried this, but have tried a couple of other fm transmitter devices like it. I was very disappointed with the sound quality and interference.

The aux input is so easy to install, why not just go with that? I think it took me less than 20 minutes.

I had no idea the aux jack was such an easy job! I'll do a search around and see what's involved. I've got a parcel shelf, so if I could put a jack in there, that would be ideal. Thanks for the tip.

It's that easy

Note that you DO NOT need to remove the head unit. You can reach the socket on the back of the head unit easily just by removing the driver's side bolster (or parcel shelf). It took me longer to decide where to put it than to actually install it.

Wow, that DOES look easy (just found greatbear's write-up and the other one that he links to)! I haven't done a mod in forever; looks like this may be the time to get the tools back out. I'll call Classic tomorrow for the kit. Many thanks for saving me the dough and giving me a new project!
