Carbon Fiber Lip for Cooper S

I came across a lip for the cooper S in SEMA las vegas. While I was surfing yesterday I found it again.

It seems like this company Ravspec has it for sale.

What do you guys think about this lip? I mean this should be pretty easy to install and the price seems right. Any feedback?

I think a simple lip can make the looks of a car different. Plus it's a clean look nothing crazy.

Look to Ebay for that part.

I've seen that exact part going for far less on Ebay. Don't know if it's on there now but they're on there regularly (front lip and rear spoiler CF)

Too heavy and expensive...get the M7 splitter instead

I heard the Hamann type didnt actually create any downforce at all....take that for what its worth to you.

I think it looks good, but have been warned to watch out clipping on curbs as it would crack. And CF is much more likely to crack under stress

I did see a Hamonn on someone’s car a while ago and it was pretty beat up. I do think it's not bad looking though. This is a good price on this one as JR Speed carries it also and they are $100 more, and they are a low priced place.

The M-7 is nice. I have a question though. I've been away from the go fast world for quite a while so I think I missed just what the definition of a "splitter' is. Just what aero effect does a splitter produce. I understand what a spoiler (arm dam) does, but splitter I can only guess.

Ok here comes a sorta simple and quick explanation. The splitter is made to force more air over the top of the car rather then under the car. Ok....so how does it do this. With splitters like the M7 one, the little metal attachments are actually adjustable. You are able to tilt it more downwards. With it pointing a little further towards the ground, air that would have regulary goen under the car, is forced to go over the car. This adds downforce to the front of the car, pushing it down and thus increasing traction. As you could imagine, the faster you are going, the more air that is being forced over, and thus more downforce is being applied. With the M7 model, i think you have to be going around 60 to REALLY feel it, but its always helping (even just a little). Its basically a spoiler for the front of your car

Ok, gotcha on this one. So, it's just another name for spoiler or air damm.

Just to add my two cents here if I may. It's not the effect of creating down force on the front of the car as much as it is to create a vacuum under the car by keeping air flow out from under it. Kinda like making the whole car into an upside down airplane wing.

I think (may be completely wrong) that its a combo of the two (vaccuum and pressure over the top).

Well, it's a Hamann rip off, although the site says twice that it's a HaRmann style lip. It's somewhat cheaper than the Hamann version, but not by much. But you're right. Even though it's a small and subtle part, it does add the right look and enough extra style without going overboard.
But like said, you might as well kiss that thing goodbye if you plan on lowering (or if you have already dropped) your MINI and using it as a daily driver. So many front lips on MINIs out there are just trashed. Some even on non-lowered MINIs.
I'd get that or the Hamann one if I could find them for less coinage, despite the added wear the front end will take.
I had a Wings West kit on a lowered '99 Cougar and the front lip was taking quite the abuse. It was like 2.5" off the ground. Had to be careful of every speed bump, dip in the road, or angled driveway that I came across. You learn to get around it all after awhile. The pain of dealing with gettin' down low. If you can deal with it, than buy it. But if you can't.....stop now and just admire the picture.
Cheers,

Yah, that is my one fear. I heard that people are having problems with the hamann get scraped. And the CF will take the abuse much worse

A poly-urethane one would be better. Fiberglass and carbon fiber crack easier

I just love carbon fiber . From my inspection on SPI's mini the lip looks like it's been on there for quite some time and the car looks like it's lowered. But the lip is still in there not in pieces. Plus the lip is like 2 inches only so I don't see me destroying the lip. Also the wheel is so close to the front of the car that I think the wheel will lift up the front of the car before the lip has a chance to get scratch but this depends on how much the car is lowered as well.

Maybe if the price is lower than people would not worry so much about scratching the lip. Let me contact Ravspec see what kind of price he can do for me. I mean this will be my eye candy but I just want to be just a little different than everyone else.

Let me get back to everyone if I can get a better price from them. Not sure if anyone else is interested.

Yah. I agree that the wheel being far forward helps. I personally scrap my front lip (stock) and i only have H&R springs which dont lower much. I'm sure if you slow down and are strategic about bumps and inclines your CF lip will be fine

And of course....PICS when you get them

Did you notice the puddle of coolant that kept seeping out from under this car? Hmmmm!

Actually I did not notice the coolant....I must be soooo focus on the lip.

Where did the coolant come from? Is the car messed up already? Leaky coolant...that's a BIG deal. Maybe the twin charge setup was leaking.
