R55 rotating noise on right side
rotating noise on right side
2011 R55, Clubman S
I have a "rolling" noise on the right side of my car. I had thought it was a wheel bearing and replaced both the front and rear with no results, but it sure sounds like a wheel bearing. The car has had new brakes (they were worn) and rotors put on all around and was doing this before and after that project.
it sure sounds like this is coming from both the front and rear wheels, only on the right side, as they are rolling. The noise goes away when I get above ~15 MPH or so. Seems more pronounced when I'm going straight or turning left than when turning right, but it's there always.
The tires, continental run-flats, are pretty worn and need to be replaced. Could it be the tires?
Thoughts?

Thanks for that. We'll see. I have an appointment to get new tires installed in a week.
I really didn't want to do that just yet, I bought a set of the Ronal R53 17" wheels used and wanted to put those on the car but the tires have to go and the clear coat on the Ronal wheels is peeling so I need to re-do them. Now all I have to do is get them apart (they are two piece) so that I can re-finish the barrels.
maybe in the spring I'll put a set of summer rubber on those and use the 16" wheels with all-season tires in the winter until they're gone and then buy a set of snow tires.

Well I'll be damned
new tires installed today and noise is gone. the tires weren't THAT bad (e.g. the wear bars were showing but there were no spots where they were worn through to the cords) but I'm glad that I've not got something else going.
too bad that I had to change the wheel bearings, but hey it's not like those won't need to be fixed some day anyway!
