R56 Valve lifters
Valve lifters
Just replaced valve stem seals.
While reinstalling rockers I noticed a few of the lifters were springy. I could push the ball end down. The rest were very rigid.
pare the springy ones bad? If there a way to determine a good from bad lifter?
thanks!

During my last rebuild, playing with the valve-lash and piston / valve clearance, I noticed a couple "soft" lifters. Since I was building for power, I didn't want any chance of valves not opening fully. Ordered new replacements and they came in hard as rocks --- took a pair of pliers to compress them. Is there a legitimate lifter test???? Probably, but I'm not aware of it, and I expect all of them to have about the same feel when compressing them.
I used four of the "soft" lifters for checking valve / piston clearance --- disassembled the lifters, filled them with JB Weld, and re-assembled them to stock height. No way for them to compress while checking clearance. If you try this, be sure to ID them as "solid" so they don't get mixed up with good ones --- paint or something.

I found this very well explain article about hydraulic lifter.
