Harmonic Balancer

Found a good way to get a new harmonic balancer on the crankshaft. The engine mount bolts are the same pitch and thread as the harmonic bolt BUT longer. Use one of the mount bolts to get the balancer on to the crank. Reverse it out when an inch or so from the oil pump shield. Then finish it off with the regular harmonic bolt. Simple. Getting the old balancer off is easy with the r52 tool for around 50 bucks.

"Harmonic damper"
The damper does not "balance" anything in this engine.
It provides "only" a damping force of harmonic vibrations in the crankshaft. No balancing.
Just a heads up...for what it may be worth.

Thanks for that clarification Mike. That makes more sense. Damper it is.

LOL, Thanks! I guess that explains why my new to me R53 came with that engine mount bolt still in. It also had the damper bolt attached to the engine mount.....
