seriously loud on the freeway? or normal?

It's been the first time I've driven my car in a week or so since I was working on upgrading the sound system, and I realized when I get off the freeway my ears are literally ringing from how loud the interior is. Now I thought this was normal but it is very very loud even compared to other convertibles I've ridden in. I even added sound dampening and everything to the interior but it still seems really loud. I know my convertible top leaks a bit, could the worn seals be adding to the noise? I really want to be able to enjoy the stereo at highway speeds also. Side note I'm not sure how much noise it adds but I am running potenza re 71s which I'm sure are responsible for a lot of road noise... For those of you who own r52s, how loud is your interior at around 75-85 mph?

Side windows up and wind deflector in helps reduce the noise.

Yep, top down it helps, sorry did not see you meant top up. When the top is up it can be loud, i would make sure the top seals all the way around and the back section is locked and closed in the trunk.

Treat with gummi fegde https://www.ecstuning.com/b-sonax-pa...nt/340100~snx/

The early MINIs aka Gen 1 convertibles are much louder then the Gen 2 and Gen 3 Convertible. Very thing tops and not a lot of sound deadening.

I'll admit that the RE-71 are about the loudest street tire I have ever run. I recently switched to the A052, and realized how accustomed I had become to that howl.

Cheers,

Charlie

Mine's not bad, much better than an '86 mustang we had. I think your tires are playing a big part in that and also, your seals are likely drying out. Mine had a lot of noise coming in and a good way to pinpoint where it's leaking is to take your phone and with audio recording on, put your microphone as close to the seal as you can and jump on the freeway. I started at the brace on the driver's side and slid the phone to the corner, across the front and over to the other side. I called out inches for reference, "1, 2...corner, 12, 13...air bag button, 20, 21..." so when I played the recording back I would know where the phone was when an increase of sound occurred. You can really tell when the air starts rushing in. With mine, I had a six-inch stretch right over my visor that was bad. I took some black sewing material (about the weight of blue jeans) and placed it in between the convertible top and seal. Careful, I just about caught my fingers the first time I closed the top on it Once it was in, no more noise. Eventually, I'll replace the seal but for now, it sealed it.
