2005 cooper s adding heated seats...how hard is it?
I own an 05 Conv. cooper s that blew its engine I bought an 06 hardtop that was wrecked in the left rear corner just for the engine But the 05 doesnt have heated sears and the 06 does Does anyone know what all i need to replace to make the seats work Is the wiring under the center console switches already? Is there a fuse and relay needed...will there be proper wiring under seats? Or do i need to replace some harnesses in the car?
I think that some cars were wired for heated seats even if they weren't ordered. So if you now have heated seats, you might be able to just put them in and plug them up. The seat heater plug is black and has 3 pins in it. Only way to know is to look under the seat and see whats down there.
There is a retrofit wiring kit that MINI offers for adding heated seats. From what I understand the wiring harness for this area of the car is extensive so changing one for the other is quite involved. Still, if you have both cars you may be willing to do this and save $45.

I added heated seats to a non-heated car and am contemplating this retrofit wiring kit. I picked up a second hand switch panel already.
Edit: There were no extra plugs under my seats (2006 R52 MCS)
