2006 R50 Starting issues.

Glad I found this place. Back in February we bought our daughter 2006 base model mini cooper R50. Car seemed well taken care of, carfax showed scheduled maintenance was always done, car is in good shape for the year. About a month after we got it it would not start, cranks but no ignition. Just as I was about to call for a tow, decided to give it one more try and it started no problem. It has done this off and on about four times now. Runs great when it starts, wont start for days, then out of the blue it fires right up.

To date I have done the following:
Checked and cleaned battery terminals and motor mount ground.
New battery.
Checked grounds and powers at DME, coil, and injectors. DME main relay is good.
Checked all fuses/relays.
Checked plugs and plug wires.
Checked wiring from DME to coil.

Today as I was doing some electrical checks (the car has not started for over a week) I was checking to see if I could read a value of the trigger signal from the DME to injector 1, I had the plug off and was checking for a ground signal, when the wife goes to crank it the darn thing fired up. Of course it was misfiring cause the injector one plug was disconnected. Put it back together and it runs like a bat out of hell. Started it 10 times after that and it fires every time. Only code I get is P1692, when it does not fire. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long first post, but I am at wits end with this little car.

Check the throttle body connector, disconect, clean it with a WD40 fluid or contact cleaner spray, and reconnect. Most of cases that help.

Cleaned and checked the throttle body connector with no change. She is back to her crazy ways, crank but no start. What is the most cost effective way to have the DME checked, as I am suspecting this will be the issue. Everything I have checked so far is checking good.

Did you re-check OBD codes? Still P1692? Anything else show up since you had it running last (the ten fire-up and runs)?
