Repairing power steering pump on 2002

I recall seeing a thread about repairing or modifying the power steering pump on a 2002. It had something to do with dust from brush wear or something like that.
My pump is not working so I thought with nothing to loose but time I would see if I could do something to make it work.
I can always buy a new one or a used one from a wrecker but thought I would give this a shot. Lots of time these days (and no money) to do these things.

PS. The car is NOT covered under the extended warranty.Im in Canada.

I'm not sure if 2002 model year cars are covered, but try contacting your local dealership and inquire about the power steering system recall. I do know the 2006 MY wasn't included, but that's the other end of the spectrum.
