What phone mount do you like?

I recently bought a 2012 R55. I've been trying to figure out how to mount my phone in it. I have one of those mounts that clip on to an air vent, but it doesn't seem to work very well with the little round air vents in the MINI. What phone mount do you like?

Thanks.
Eric S.

After trying a couple off Amazon, I finally got a Cravenspeed Gemini. Definitely prefer the Gemini. It doesn't block the vents, and it puts the phone in a good place.

where do you want your phone? If up by the tach then I like the Craven products ... good stuff .. well made ... been around for a long time. If you want it down in cup holder land the weathertech system looks nice.

The weathertech is nice, I had it in my mustang and was the only thing I grabbed from it when totaled. It sits in there pretty well and phone or holder hasn’t slipped out yet, or I’m just not driving the mini hard enough.

I have this mount, and it’s been rock solid:

I use a Scosche magnet mount to hold my phone, and I can jump in the car and just slap my phone to the dash.

I use RAM exclusively. Once you use one, you will too. On all my bikes, and most other cars. Suction cup mount and a spider type holder. I put it on the very left of the windshield, which works very well. Charger easily runs above the steering wheel if need be also.

Maxboost Durahold. It is $10.00 on Amazon, high quality plastic, and works great. I have it right under my rear view mirror, pointed at me. Perfect!

Thanks, all. I also saw this kind on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DQWK5JY/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A1LGDXCZMXB2CW&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DQWK5JY/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A1LGDXCZMXB2CW&psc=1
. Has anyone used one of these? Looks pretty good but I'm worried the view of the phone may be blocked a bit by the steering wheel.

I had the same worry, so opted for one that is center dash, under the mirror. I also didn’t want to lose the use of one of my cup holders, or mess with the air vents, so the one I chose is perfect for my needs. Also, it does not interfere with my field of vision, while driving.

I have a similar one and it works fine. It is in exactly the right position for me.

I've tried several and have found the Craven to work the best.

If you don't mind waiting, I got the same thing from ebay for $13 delivered. Here's the view from my perspective in the F54 Clubman. Secures firmly to back of tach, they even included a wrench. Have to see if I can get one to fit in my R53. There are a few more pics in my gallery.

Too late! I went ahead and ordered it from Amazon. Haven't gotten it yet. I'll post a picture once I install it.

The ProClip USA angled mounts are fantastic, and they are super sturdy when set into place. I personally hate phone mounts that are right in your face like by the gauges, or even stuck on the windshield (why should I have to resort to sacrificing windshield real estate for a mount? It's stupid), so when my Fiancee mentioned these, I had to try it out.

I bought one for my Jeep Cherokee at first, and then after my initial impressions, I bought another one, but for the Mini, and they both work great for my iPhone 8, and its case. Best phone mount, and I also like how it's mounted more stealthily compared to others, so it doesn't appear to intrude on your visibility while driving. And if you have your navigation app on your phone, it's just a casual glance at a time, so it doesn't feel you are distracted from it; allowing you to focus on driving.

I like the Pro Clip mount. Well made and easy to install. I have used couple different ones in different minis. I had the mini mount and it was junk. The clip would break all the time. Tried the go badges mount. Magnetic mount just fell apart.

just installed this type mount on my 2012 R56 and even with JCW stiff springs my phone stays. Paid less the $12 on Ebay. Highly recommend.

F56, I personally dont like the options available, looked and looked and finally settled on the cravenspeed. It works, fairly solid build but it had a few problems... for me.
1. The screw for the inboard mount was too long, could not get it tight and the mount would clunk over hard bumps... but fit in line with the run flat clunkiness. LOL! Had to install some nylon spacers to resolve.
2 The arm was too short and to put my phone in the correct spot led to it hitting the fuel gauge and being tilted slightly. It also was blocked by steering wheel so I couldn't see 1/4 of my Waze app. destination time, distance, etc. I have many appointments throughout a day so I like to see the time to destination.
I remedied problem 2 by cutting a 4.5 inch arm from some G10 I had lying around. Now the position is workable, but still not quite right. (tried 3d printing it in PETG first but it was not rigid enough)
A 5inch arm from cravenspeed is $20. Mine... $labor.00.

I am going to make my own out of carbon fiber, one that fits my needs and has some classy lines and finish. The mini deserves something that looks classy, it's a nice car after all.

I recommend cravenspeed even with the small dislikes I had/have, it does the job.
Seems of all the choices available it is the best performer.

I found the gemini to be the most reliable and versatile phone holder. They even provide an attachment for a tablet. They also have magnetic attachments too. Love craven speed gear.

Cravenspeed scissor with 5" extension arm, works great for Galaxy S8 with Otter cover. Note: The factory mount didn't fit over the otter cover.
