I've never had some much one-thing-after-another trouble with any other car. While I was driving my 2006 Mini Cooper S with A/C on everything was fine, then the climate control would work on/off and intermittently showing no power.. eventually now all power to the control is gone. No lights, no temp display, buttons not working. However he blower is working (of course I can't control it) I checked The F30 & F31 A/C and blower fuses they're both good. What else could it be?? Is there a relay? I just put in a brand new battery too. Thanks for any advice.
Which A/C control do you have? The manual one with 3 *****, or the automatic with all the buttons?
Thanks Dan, I have attached a pic of my climate control.
The tiny climate screen does not work, nor does the rotational dial or any of the climate related buttons for direction or fan speed. The weird thing is that sometimes I still feel a faint airflow coming out of the dash vent. This has been busted for over a year. Another weird event was that one time while starting the car, the whole climate system suddenly worked again and lasted for my whole drive to work. I got it to blow warm and cold air at all different speeds. Then, after that drive, it went back to not working and has remained dormant for months.
I will also note that the radio still works, and all of the lock/unlock and window controls all work as well.
Here’s a wiring diagram, look for fuse F30 in the fuse panel behind the cover in the left footwell.
Two other things while looking at that fuse; 1) look at the inside of the cover and make sure it’s Fuse 30 and not Fuse 29, which it would have been a year earlier.
And 2) this is less likely but would explain what you saw:
Check that the fuse holder clip is tight to the fuse! That caught me one time on my wife’s minivan. A loose fuse clip caused a fuse to blow repeatedly. I put a twist in the fuse prong, and it’s held ever since. Not much I could do about the fuse clip itself without a LOT of work.
The K4 relay should be called out on the inside of the fuse panel cover too. Is it present? I tried to help another member with another 2006 (IIRC) but there was no sign of the K4 relay. Only an empty relay socket, no label. I’d change the relay while you’re in there, assuming it’s there. It should pull straight out.
Here’s a photo calling out the relays in the panel, but I suspect it’s for 2005 and earlier.
If your fuse panel is different than the one in the lower photo, please let me know.
I’m hoping it’s not a problem with the A/C control module itself.
