Thinking about buying a 2016 Countryman S All4
I previously owned a 2007 R56 that I absolutely loved. I had a catastrophic motor failure at just over 120,000 miles. After deciding the cost of replacing the motor was prohibitive I sold it for parts.
My wife and I found a 2016 Countryman S All4 at a local dealer that we are considering. We really like the car but my previous experience with the motor on my R56 has me a little apprehensive. I learned a great deal about my R56 from the members here at NAM. So I am looking for some insight and information concerning the 2016 F60S All4. What should I know good or bad? Common problems? Is it equipped with a BMW manufactured engine? Anything I should look for before buying? Any other information or guidance? All comments will be appreciated.

If you have the VIN you can enter the last 7 digits at bimmer.work to decode it. The site will list if it's an F60 or R60.
In general, I think you can tell by the side scuttles. If it's a hard solid plastic piece shaped like an arrow pointing forward it's an F60, if there's a slanted scoop into the side scuttle it's an R60.

This is the car I am looking at.

So it's an R60.
It has the N18 engine, the newer version of what you had in your R56. They mitigated much of the HPFP, turbo, and valve coking issues from the N14. It's also the last year of the R series Countryman and the last year for the N18, so it's as good as it gets there.

When I input the last 7, that page churns then resets with an empty field. I was trying to determine if our new to us 2016 was an R or F but from reading this thread have determined it was one of the last builds of the R60. Plus the side scuttles are straight/slanted.
