High altitude/high idle solved
As posted earlier I have been having a problem with my ’15 MCS, with JCW tune, concerning high idle speed. It would be an intermittent error code: 1E0001 “Idle speed control: Speed too high.” At a stop light, it would take 20 to 30 seconds to drop from 1,500 rpm to 1,200 and finally to 7-800 with a rough idle. Sometimes not. I drive in sport mode. I do have an Eventuri intake. The dealer ran a smoke test and there was a small leak. I posted earlier the trials and tribulations getting a part from Germany that has been modified and not yet available in the US.
The techs replaced the parts (w/labor about 600 worth) and it was better but not solved. It seemed to be worst at lower temps, around 35F. I taped off the top intake on the Eventuri and got a drop of 100 rpm. This all started this past summer when Shell 91 gas came with their “new V formula.” I also considered that it may be a cooling factor for the turbo and it may be going out.
Started a month long search on the web and came across a TSB from BMW/Mini SI M 12 03 17 dated May 2017 and updated June and July. It is for all MINIs, all engines and models. How I found this was a mistery as the site is for SAs at MINI dealers only. I printed it out and informed my SA. Wow, scheduled update, no charge.
It was a software issue for vehicles driven at an altitude of 1,500 meters and higher. The new values have been included in newer models and is not in any combined updates, up to summer ’17 builds.
So it appears to be solved. RPMs down and gas mileage up. Front tires lasting longer. The only reason that my SA did not find this (great guy whom has done a lot of mods for me) is that it appears that due to Bavarian logic, they may have only notified dealership SAs over 1,500 meters in altitude. The dealership that I use, and the car came from is listed at 1,490 meters. Guess they figured that the dealership was on the mountain top and not in the valley. German BMW logic? Any way, now on to re-coding all changes including the LCI tail lights.
Motoring on in the mountains.

Nice, that was enough info that I could dig a bit more - the site listed wants a fee to get the files, but I tracked it down on the NHTSA site.
Here it is on their site:

Thanks!

Your welcome. We try to visit Durango and the area couple times a year. Did Mini in the Mountains this past July in Salida. Great time! Came home with a trophy. BTW, better RPMs after update. Re-coded with Bimmercode, everything back.
