My headliner is starting to sag so I plan to DIY the fix. Where have you guys sourced parts for the job?
I found headlinerexpress.com has the material for around $80. What other options are out there?

I briefly considered going with anthracite instead of my standard grey but it looks like I would need to replace all the trim pieces too (A pillar trim pieces, sunvisors, grab handles etc.). Even if I could source those parts used (a quick look on eBay and allmagauto shows very few anthracite options) it looks like costs would add up pretty quickly.

 

We used yourautotrim.com and ordered 3 yards of Light Grey PH-2075 and two cans of spray adhesive. Total was $67 and change.

The material is good and it has held up for the last 18 months. Too early to say it’s a long term fix mainly because the glue they sold me isn’t the best. They’re selling a different glue now so you may want to call and talk to them.

 

Try Joann Fabrics. I believe you will need 7 feet of it for an R50/R53. When I checked a few weeks ago, it was around $35 plus tax for black. For glue, I use 3M General purpose trim adhesive (I think that's what it's called) and usually source it from Wal Mart. Don't use the Duro brand stuff, it's too weak and the headliner will fall down in about a day. I know from experience because it happened when I did my truck about 7 years ago. The Duro fell in a day, and I put it back up with 3M and it is still there, albeit imperfect because it never stretches the same way twice.

I'll be adding that job to my annual Christmas service.
Last year was a clutch and front end rebuild. This year - Koni struts, headliner and a few bits&pieces.

 

I did the same thing a few months ago, used a coupon for Joann's and had 3 yards of it within 2 hours. I did spend the extra and buy the 3M Headliner adhesive and even though I have the sunroof, it still took nearly 2 cans. Maybe I put the glue down thick but I would rather it have extra hold than not hold at all or for very long.

Is there anything else I should get done while I have the headliner out?
I already have a dash cam but don't intend to run a rear facing one.
I've toyed with the idea of installing the HK Amp but have heard it's a pain to do. I wouldn't mind an aftermarket amp. I guess now would be the time to at least think about running the wiring.
Someone in another post mentioned double checking the sunroof drains. Any other maintenance items to consider while I'm in there?

 

Check the roof drains (assuming you have a sunroof) and also check the antenna mount. If yours is leaking or if you think it may leak, when the headliner is down is the time to fix it.

Mine was leaking and I ended up pulling the headliner partially down and removed the antenna base, ran a bead of black caulk around the bottom of it, then reinstalled it so that when the antenna was tightened down, it would squeeze the caulk out the sides and some through the mounting hole. Now I know it won't leak anymore. And if you are quick, the caulk cleans up easily enough with some paper towels and a bit of water.

 

In addition to the above, I would consider cleaning and greasing the sunroof tracks and gears while you are in there. After 15 years, the grease is probably more like peanut butter and can cause a failure of the system if it starts to bind due to no lubrication.

no need to run the rear dash cam cable under headliner. This can be done on the side of the car. Same for amp. Actually, you can get a small amp and stick it under the steering wheel panel. I stuck a small Alpine KTP-445 there.

 

How long did the entire job take? I am considering the knit headliner once I can figure out what color matches the original light grey.

 

Does not take to long. I let my liner dry overninght before I reinstalled.
