Dash Cam Help Please

Hi guys,

I am having issues on the Condo where my GF live, someone has dented my car 3 times in less than a month. I have a good idea of who that someone is but I need to get him on the act. I am going to install a Dash cam inside the car and I have a few questions.

- Can I get constant power from the fuse box? that way I wont have to wire the camera into the battery directly
- Is it safe to keep the camera running? I mean could that drain the battery?

Thank you guys!

For constant power your best bet would be to run direct to the battery. Not recommended though.

I have mine tapped into the fuse box. The Dash Cam I purchased has a small capacitor in it. (Small battery that holds a charge enough to record for small amounts of time between charges) When it senses motion in front of it, hears a loud noise or feels movement, it begins recording. Once it powers back on, it alerts me with a warning that parking mode was activated.

In some cases the power outlet that is normally switched off when the key is off can be made to be powered all the time. In cases where I am aware of this being possible it is a fuse that needs to be installed.

Then you want a dash cam that has parking surveillance mode.

I have a Thinkware F800 dash cam which has this feature although I have not bothered to use because the cam is *not* powered all the time and I haven't taken the time to make this happen. My other car has a power outlet that can be powered all the time I just have not bothered. And I have not yet installed a dash cam in my JCW. I have a 2nd new dash cam just have never gotten around to installing it.

But the Thinkware camera does have a battery save mode. You set the power level at which you want the camera to shut off in order to keep from running down the battery.

I use a 20000 mAh power bank with a blackvue camera (and a USB 5V to 12V converter). It won't run forever but long enough (around 9h) for my need. This way it won't drain the battery of the car but the downside is I need to bring the power bank home to recharge.

Hi guys,

i just did the install Thinkware F800 pro. Camera looks good but Is not staying on after I shut the car off.

I am using Fuse 42 for constant power ( battery ) and fuse 51 for Switched power ( while the car is on )

Could anyone tell me which fuse should I use for constant power? I though 42 was a constant power switch.

Issue is now resolved.
Issue was that I had forgotten to enable Parking Mode in the camera settings LOL! Enabled it and now camera stays on after shutting the car off.

Thank you all
