Not sure how the market is for 1st gen, but Im working on a 2012 R57s with 43k miles. I plan on selling it for 8.5k once ready.

A little pricey, even with the miles, personally...
$5000-5500 with those miles, and a manual.

What BlwnAway says. THE best year of production, tritec engine and getrag 6 speed gear box both near bullet proof. If you're looking for more fun than should be allowed, grab it if you can talk them down a bit.
Some hints for it's long life.
91 or higher TopTier fuel only
check the fluids regularly, oil change and tire rotation every 5K
RaggTopp or 303 for canvas care.
If it doesn't have them, front strut tower plates and replace the plastic expansion tank with a stainless one. Easy to do.
Topless motoring IS motoring at its best!

Price really depends on the area it is being sold in. That is true for all vehicles!
Only you will know if it is the right one for you!
It looks very nice in the picture and is the most desirable model of the first gen Mini Coopers. 2006 was the stellar year ( the 07/08 verts were really gen 1s also!
Let us know how it goes! It is a rare color for the year and sought after!

I paid around that a year ago for a 2005 R52 S that was clean and with less than 65,000 miles. Mine was from a dealer, which will almost always be more, but it did include an extended warranty for the engine and transmission.

Just curious why do you feel 06 is the best year? Is this based on some fact or just that you own 06? LOL... I always thought 05-06 were the same.

As far as value to OP... it seems like a decent deal. I paid 7100 for my 05 pretty heavily loaded had 79k miles about 3 years ago. It's getting harder to find R52/R53 unmolested with reasonable miles these days. Better to pay a bit more than market value for a good example then to save a few bucks that ends up biting you in the rear. Doesn't mean you can't try to negotiate a bit!

I have 162K miles on my 06 R53 JCW and I have to say, it still runs like new! I have done regular maintenance since I have owned it and believe it is as powerful as when I acquired it, three years ago. It is a testament to all those Miniacs, that have put over 300K miles on theirs.
05 and 06 where very good Mini years with the R53. I have owned both. I edge towards the 06 models!

Wayne, what did they do to the '07 and '08 R52's that were different than the '06?

Someone else may know more, but one interesting change is that the 2007-2008 R52s were available in 2nd gen R56 colors. Also in 2008 there was the “Last of the Supercharged” limited edition.

Also, found this:

2007 R52 MINI Convertibles

The convertibles will have Hyper Blue replaced with Lightning Blue in December. All other colors will remain until March where the Hot Orange will be replaced with Mellow Yellow on both models, Nightfire Red for the Cooper, and Laser Blue for the Cooper S.

Interior Body Color will gain Pepper White, Lightning Blue, and Mellow Yellow in March also. Power folding mirrors will become available for $300.00 but will not be able to be combined with the Cold Weather Pkg. Last but not least the Cooper Convertible Sport Pkg. will be available with Bonnet Stripes.

The AUX Input will be standard on all convertibles (as it is on the R56 coupe).

The R52 07 and 08 were actually the same as the 06 (tritech engines) Carry over car, until 2009, when they went to the N14 engines

Yep they changed the head unit also at the end of the life cycle. They also had those cool colors and some cool matching leather color/body color options. The best was the sidewalk editions and the last of the supercharged. I was invited to the MINI dealer back in the day to see one of those new and it was pretty loaded with dealer add ons near 5oK new.

Nightfire Red - was a rare color in the R52, only seen a couple, one at the time was my friend on MTTS ( old MINIUSA product manager ).

Pretty much a twin to my '05 Hot Orange with 65k miles. I agree that the asking price is a bit high, but don't think you're overspending if you can bring them down closer to $6k.

Jump on it, even more so if the owner has kept service records. We're getting close to the point where 1st gen cars will start increasing in value.
