Infant Seats! R56 Mini - Will it baby?

My wife and I are expecting our first kid. The wife would really, really like to keep her Mini and I'd like to avoid buying a new car.

With that said, does anyone have any infant seat brands that can reasonably fit in a R56 Mini Cooper S coupe? Also, are we being crazy by trying to keep the car?

why wouldnt a baby seat fit in a mini? because you face it backwards and it naturally sits forward more?
lay the seat down, strap junior into the hatch area

how many of us grew up laying in the back of the station wagon lol.

We had a Chicco keyfit when my son was really little. You can just barely jam it in there rear facing with the front seat fully forward but also I’m afraid it’s quite difficult getting in and out. It’s a bit easier once you reach front facing age.

rear facing seats are just piggish in general. It was tight even in the GTI and not exactly spacious even in the Suburban I borrowed once.

It works. We have a 3 month old and have done a couple of trips with our girl in it. You have to move the passenger seat all the way up and tilt the seat so it is quite straight.

So, it is fine for the two of y’all and your baby for short trips. (My wife is 5.6”). But it is not the easiest to get the car seat in there. Not hard but just inconvenient.

We are also able to fit the stroller in the trunk, but it doesn’t leave room for much (anything) else.

In sum: possible but inconvenient.

Got my 2005 MINI non-S when our sons were 4,5 and 6. Sons are now 18,19 and 20 and we still have the same MINI with 168,000 miles of tight family trips, many track days, many autox’s, many MTTS’s, many MOTD’s and many, many, many Dragon Runs!

Those rear facing seats can be a pain, but stick in there, it gets sooooo much easier when you flip around.

The first day I had the R50 MINI home the rear seat was removed and 3 sets of junior dragster 5 point racing harnesses were installed to carry the boys! I also installed a Mini-Do-More hitch and made a hitch style cargo box to handle extra stuff on trips!

Enjoy the Drive!
