No power steering some mornings

My 2002 R53 77,xxx miles has no power steering some mornings.
At least, I think it's consistently mornings when it is an issue. I'll come back later in the day and the power steering is functional.

The power steering pump was replaced by MINI under recall in 3/2017, when I bought the car. There is no warranty beyond that one-time replacement according to my local dealer.

My local MINI mechanic, whom I trust, says the steering pumps working intermittently is not unusual.
Before I spend $1,000 replacing the pump, (or deciding to sell my MINI), does anybody have any thoughts?

Thanks!

I would do a complete power steering fluid flush first before spending $$ for another pump

All the problems with the power steering unit has me wondering about the feasibility of adapting an engine-driven power steering unit in the place of the AC compressor.

Heck your alternator. Once the charge go down. Steering is the first to go

Yep that alt, then check the connections on the power steering pump and alt/starter, they can get pretty bad or if you did work before come loose.

My PS pump went on/off/on a day before it died.
Then check places for leaks and not getting correct fluid flow.
