I have a 2013 R56 JCW and a couple of days ago I noticed a clicking noise coming from the engine compartment after start up and after shut down, It may also be occurring while driving too, but i am unable to hear if it is obviously. It's a single click spaced out by about a minute or so. I think it may be related to the cooling fan that continues to run after engine shut down, as i don't hear the fan running after shut down. Here in Connecticut it is pretty cool 50's 60's so not sure if the fan would normally be kicking on.
I am just putting this out there in the hopes that maybe this is a well known issue to more seasoned MINI drivers. I have not even popped the hood yet, figured I start here. Any Info would be great. Thanks!

 

the cooling fan is not running at all. Is it safe to drive sparingly for a few more days?
