CEL light with Unprofessional Mini dealer service.
To whom who read this I'm apologize for my poor English.
Just need help and share your opinions.
My 2015 R60 Countryman has CEL light on ( 63,000 mile )
1st time
I drive to Mini dealer to check engine light with Code P0171 ( Engune too lean). After they're diagnostic they told me to replace Valve cover and shaft seal for $1480.12 and I say Yes, let's do it. 2 day later got a phone call to pick it up after took a car and drive back home it came back on in 15 minute so I u-turn and drive back to Mini dealer drop off and let them check again.
2nd time
3 day later after drop off got a phone call from Mini dealer and told me they're found leaking from charge air line pipe and my O2 down stream sensor used after market part need to be replace to OEM one I told them I was used this O2 sensor for a while I got nothing wrong why I need to replace it still working. They said it might cause for CEL light. So I need to replace and pay again for $575.70.
It mean I already paid for it $2,055.82 from first and this time.
3 day later got a phone call to pick up in the morning. I have been there before going to work after took a car off Mini dealer drive to work CEL ligjg came back on again I call Mini to let them know and asked Why it still came back on this is a 2nd time so I gonna go back soon.
3rd time
I drive back to Mini dealer again and again and drop off. Waiting for a while and 2 week later got a phone call this time they asked me for the fuel that I put on my Mini. I told them I always fill up with 93premium with Mobile only. They said might cause from I fill up with not a good fuel and they check a camera scope was found carbon build up in manifold recommended to clean and replace injector and one more thing is turbo charger is not working properly ( I don't know the word that he said) I need to be replace too. I said what why it a lot of thing and how much does it cost. They said
turbo charger 4,300
Injector 1,290
Walnut blast 900 (Carbon clean)
Total 6,490
OMG Do I have to spend $6,490 more. Sell it or trade is more
easy.
I talk to service adviser. If I don't want to spend more money what I can do. Can your replace it back and refund cause It not fix any issue. he said the part is already replace cannot refund me if I don't wanna continue to do it just pick it up and do with after market part some where else. But he can get offer for me he will asked his manager and call me back.
I said ok. 5 min Later he call me back and asking for $2,200 for injector $1,290 and carbon clean $900 and Minidealer will cover for turbocharger $4,300 and I said I will think about it.
What I can do for this case if I don't wanna spend more money and asking for refund is it possible. Because it not fix any issue problem look like Mini dealer random to fix the thing. It look like unprofessional Or if I agree to do it mean I will have to pay almost $4,500 but not sure it gonna fix the issue.
Have some thing like this case happened with someone please share or recommended.
That is really poor. Additionally, the quotes and parts are getting more and more complex and expensive... I had a similar experience with MINI dealer quoting thousands of $ to do some basic work that I knew was not the root cause of my issue. Hence, I just paid them the fee for their computer scope (with a page full of faults) and was lucky enough to find and fix the problem on my own. You'd be much better off going to an independent mechanic with MINI experience in my opinion. Replacing the 2nd O2 sensor is a joke. This does nothing but read/report the performance of the catalytic converter... The primary 02 sensor is what the computer uses to adjust the fuel... Is it possible to get a 2nd opinion at this point?
i was throwing that code on a trip i took across country lately with some sketchy fuel i was using. tossed a bottle of techron in the tank and it cleared everything up. the odd thing was if i used anything but techron it didn't work (seafoam or octaine booster)
we need lawyers in the forum to advice us on situations like this...unbelievable how the dealer is just incompetent!!! Next time you go somewhere to fix your car, tell them I will only pay if the problem is fixed!

Yes, I agree with you to having lawyers to advice.

I just talk to the one who worked with Lexus Dealer before. Tell him for my case. He said never seen the case like this. The Mini dealer suppost to take care until it gone not keep the customer paying look like they're random to fix it try to replace many thing. I will come back to update again after talk to service manager on Friday.
Please tell everyone which crooked dealer is doing this ( South Shore I see). They are scamming you. Pure fraud with inflated prices and spiraling work orders as they can't diagnose the problem.
Call MINI USA Corporate and put them on notice.
Call Attorney
Call local consumer fraud bureau if you have one
Call local District Attorneys office
etc.
Turbo is covered under extended warranty, so MINI USA is paying for that. Carbon cleaning is twice the price of a normal job and rarely needed on the N18 from past reading and experience. Fuel injectors are $70 or so each if you buy non MINI brand. Install is way overpriced.
