True net HP and "overboost".

Looking online at the hp and tq ratings from various published sources for the 2013 JCW engine (non-GP) I've noticed some inconsistency in the reporting. For instance:

Most sources report: 208 hp @ 6k rpm and 192 lb ft @ 1850 rpm.

However when I use the "VIN Decoder" for my car (R59 JCW) on this website I get: 211 hp @ 6k rpm and 192 lb ft @ 1850 rpm for the same engine. Add to that.....207 lb ft with "overboost".

I've also seen where the 2013 GP engine was rated at 211 hp @ 6k rpm and 207 lb ft at 2000 rpm (not in overboost).

So...the 2013 JCW and the GP tune do seem different.....but not by much.

I understand that "Sport Mode" is completely independent of "overboost".

Obviously, for my engine, I like seeing the 211 hp rather than the 208 hp but, which is accurate?

And that "overboost".....what are the peak hp and tq figures when the turbo is in this mode?

Thanks!

The specs vary, my 2010 R56 JCW ranges from 205-208 HP using different VIN decoder sites. The overboost brings torque up to 208 from 192. I haven't seen anything that mentions HP changing with overboost.

According to OEM spec data, It is 208 hp with 192 lb-ft of torque. Over boost brings to 208 lb-ft of torque with same hp.

If you want to bring some more juice without messing with the ECU and an expensive $1K tune, go for a JB+. You will get an additional 20hp and 30 lb-ft torque which seems a good balance for the JCW bigger turbo N18 engine.

Then, any "honest" tuner will tell you they cannot really do any better unless you invest in aftermarket hardware for your JCW.

I've searched for an independent dyno test report using the N18 JCW engine with the JB+ tuner but couldn't find anything other than "ad claims". Can you steer me in the right direction? Thx.

The stock dyno tests I found on the web were for the N18 S engine and there is a few. They state the product is very credible and provide the expected results.

You can also go on Burger Motorsport website where you will find their results, again for an S engine. From there, you can easily figure how the gain can translate to the additional power and torque of the JCW engine. I am entirely satisfied as far as I am concerned.

208hp (mechanical) = 210.88hp (metric) which rounds up to 211hp
Both are correct depending upon the units that you are using.

The horsepower rating while in Overboost doesn’t change as the engine is not spinning any faster. The rating is still at 6,000rpm.

Sport Mode changes the relationship between the pedal movement and the throttle opening. This is Drive-By-Wire and there is no hard linkage between the pedal and the throttle mechanism. Sport Mode requires less pedal movement to get the same throttle opening. Mostly it is a mind game as the engine is not producing any more power.
