F56 Guide How to change your spark plugs


Plugs to be torqued to 23nm+-3

This video should NOT be followed. You NEED to torque the spark plugs properly on these cars.

Notice how the washer is not a crush washer, but a solid copper washer? This is because the spark plugs MUST, and I mean MUST, but clocked to the fuel injector. Both BMW and Mercedes have reported melted pistons due to improperly torqued plus. 23nm+-3 is what they need to be torqued too. No exceptions.

Thanks for the feedback, I’ve added the torque setting to the description and title of the video. At the time this was made that figures wasn’t easily available.

The official workshop manual has the following step before removing the first ignition coil, and I am puzzled by why it is necessary? The torque spec on the ignition coil screws is 8 Nm btw.
