Detaching battery overnight = registration necessary?

Hi everyone - newly purchased 2012 MINI Cooper S (R56 N18) and the engine light went on after starting it after the first night in our garage after a rough cold start.

The engine light did not go on during my two test drives before that.

Under the hood, I found a sensor in the duct to the turbo was unhooked (and the wire clip bent). I fixed the clip and put the sensor back in.

I don't have a BMW scan tool to read the code, but I disconnected the battery to hopefully reset the computer. Now I reading that I may need to go through the register process if the battery is disconnected. How can I tell if I need to do that?

Thank you.

We have a 2012 MCS, it doesn't have IBS so no battery registration needed. Until you get the codes read, it's a shot in the dark what the problem is.

Registration is when you install a new battery.
