So, I will be having an interesting issue this fall. I will more than likely need to get some centering rings. The hub bore that I will need rings for is 54.1mm where as the MINI wheels are 56.1mm.

Any idea where I would be able to get 56.1 to 54.1 step-down centering rings?

If memory serves me well, you are in Portland area? I bought hub rings at Les Schwab. They had to order them for me but they were only $10 at the time. Might save you some cash if you care.

No. Plastic is less than fine. Even AL ones they are just wheel installation aids. Ultimately the centering is done by the lug bolt/nuts, that is if you tightening them in proper procedure.

 

Yes, the 2019 MX5 RF GT-S I have on order has the slightly smaller hubs and if the MINI's 15" fit over the brakes (I suspect they will), I'll be using them as winter tires. I know that there is a huge debate on if they are needed or not. Regardless, I will be running them

The actual order will be made when the dealership gets it's next allotment at the end of this month. Then another 8 weeks. Very much like my MINI back in 2004.

 

Agreed, just buy studs & nuts. Tighten by hand, then tighten (proper torque) them in a criss cross manor...
I've been driving cars using this method since 1968 without problem. One of my street cars has been over 140mph, one other to about 135mph...no tire bounce, problems. No odd tire wear in any of them. No stud breakage on any of my cars.

The MX5 RF GT-S is a solid choice and congratulations. That would be high in my short list. I was talking to a club member with a SC MX5 ND and he told me with the 2019 MY he would not need the SC. He runs slicks on track and very fast.

I am fortunate that I cannot fit one more car into my stable or else who know what I would be buying.

The standard wheel is 17" so I think at best you can only go down to 16". 15" likely is out of the question. Check out Goodwin Racing for what they have for ND.

BTW, only in North America they call it Miata. I prefer they just call it MX5.

 

Stock rotors are only 1mm or 2mm bigger than that of the stock MINI rotors, there are a few people on MX5Miata.net including the boffins at Flyin Miata that have put 15's on the ND. My thoughts are that they will fit, if not, I'll be driving the 2005 S in the winter if it snows. We will see in several weeks. As far as the centering rings go, I do understand that they are to assist in install, but for less than $50, I'll use them anyway. I have read a lot on both sides of the argument and both, in my mind, are sound and logical. I'll pre fit them without the rings and if they clear the brakes order the rings. The only issue is of they clear the brakes.
