So, my GP needs a new alternator. I could do it myself, it actually looks reasonably straight forward.

However, it is like a billion degrees in Florida right now (and when it is a little cooler it is pouring down rain) and I am garage-less. I am seriously considering just paying the local Mini shop to do the work. The difference is around $400. I can use $400. But I figure I worked to get a decent job so I wouldn't have to lay on my back in the broiler known as Florida, on the concrete equivalent of a pizza stone, putting in an alternator on a car.

So is spending $400 to have someone do work I can do to avoid having my brain simmer in its own juices for 4 hours a smart move, or a lazy move?

 

When I lived in Florida, an air conditioner repair guy I knew told me that standing on a roof and working on a unit was slowly killing him. Just ordinary daily activities can be a pain in the heat. No way I'd do that repair outside. btw - don't you have any of those places where you can rent lift/tools for DIYers to work on cars? Will save you most of the money in that case.
