Hello all, I have a 2006 JCW, its time to tackle the front brakes- pads and rotors, any "gotchas" I should be on the lookout for? Is it straight forward? Any help or advice is appreciated. I have always had it done at a shop but I have the time and its about time I did this.

SOP. No magic design secrets. Just take care not to upset the brake ware sensors.

Oh, things like accidentally break a wire, damage the sensor w/ a tool, just something you don't want to add to the list of things to replace.

 

Before you start, buy new wear sensors, as they are not meant to be reused and often break taking them out or putting back in.
Brakes should be tackled by people with experience, if you don't have that, get someone that does, to help you learn how to do it correctly. They are your lifeline!
You do not need to remove the calipers. When reinstalling the new pads, you should lube the pins, making sure not to get grease on anything else. The brake fluid should be replaced in the whole system. If the fluid is brown, it is shot!

hi all - im installing new front pads/rotors and have done this many times on my regular r53. this will be the first time on my jcw and the bentley manual doesnt have any instructrions. i cant seem to find any step by step instructions online. can someone pls point be to one? or maybe give a quick overview? at the very least, can someone pls explain how to loosen the guide pins? do i need to hold the inner bolt with a wrench while i unscrew the outer bolt? thanks!

 

never mind - didnt realize these are the same as r56 rotors -- plenty of info there!
