2003 R53 Seat Swap to 2006 R53 Panther Seats

Hello All!

I am a longterm Bay Area R53 owner, purchased my first one in 2003 brand new and drove it 163,000 and sold it last spring. Wonderful experience.

Recently purchased another 2003 R53 with JCW kit and heated seats with 52,000 miles on it with stained cloth seats.

I found some 2006 Panther seats that I put into my 2003 R53 but the seat airbags etc. wires were not a complete plug and play. And low and behold my airbag light is on. And I don't believe my heated seats are working either.

Can anyone direct me to where I can find a way to make this work? Or provide some insight as to what is the best approach.

It seems from what I gather there maybe multiple way to approach this issue. From moving all the old seat belt buckles etc. to the new seats to some of folks using 4 ohm resisters to trick the system.

I'd like to be able have the system completely work in a proper manner.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers

There are many threads on the forum about how to swap seats into an R53 (usually R56 into R53) written by people know exactly what to do, and I'm sure one of the members will be able to help. I think, however, that once you have tripped the airbag light it has to be reset by a dealer.

I know this is an old thread, but I"m curious if you ever got this figured out. I swapped a set of the panther english leather seats from an 06 into my 03 this week. I ended up having to use the seatbelt pre-tensioner from my original drivers seat because the donor seat tensioner had fired, but it also had different plugs on the wires. Other than that it was a straight swap, but somehow I turned the airbag light on, so now I'm waiting for a scanner to be delivered so that I can turn it off.

2006 to 2003 seat swap

Hello,

What I did in the end was to swap out both the seat belt tensioners and the air bags in both seats.

It is a bit of work to remove air bags and replace but everything went back together. Note that 2006 airbag units were larger than the 2003 but the 2006 seats accepted the 2003 airbag units.

My research on realoem had separate part numbers for the seat belt tensioners and airbags 2003 vs 2006 so it made complete sense.

Reset my airbag module watched as the airbag light flashed a few times then went out.

Perfect.

Motor On!
