I am not sure how many mini owners are aware of this trick, but if you hold the unlock button up, it performs the same function as holding down the wings on the key. I thought this was common knowledge, but my buddy with an 04 JCW was unaware of this trick. Just figured i would share with everyone.
(anyone else know interesting functions of the mini?)

Questions
Are you referring to the sunroof opening and the windows going down with the lock toggle held? If so, is this an available option for 03's? Does it have to be programmed? I inquired about this feature numerous times at the dealer but was told it was not programmable.
Please provide additional information for those of us trying to get this feature.

I stumbled on this feature of the Unlock toggle over the weekend when I was putting Ian Cull's AutoUp window circuit in. It works from the toggle but not from my remote (pressing the wings for 5 seconds or more). I suspect the remote feature would require reprogramming.
By the way, Ian's circuit works very fine.

RTH3, i have an 03 and it works on mine.... found it by mistake one day while leaning agains the car it was pushing the wing botton... everything opened

Let me clarify: if I hold the locking toggle switch up or down all it operates are the locks. The windows do not go down and the sunroof won't open.
If I hold the wheels button on my key fob, the windows go down and the sunroof opens.
Is this feature dependent on the software version programmed on the car? If so, what version do you folks have that is working? If not, who can I contact to find out how to get this to operate?
I just tried it again on my car (just had v39.2 installed two weeks ago) and it still does not work.

I just discovered the toggle trick this morning! I was waiting for my wife to get in the car so I hit the unlock toggle and absent mindedly held it up. All of a sudden the windows and sunroof start opening.
It was about 38 degrees this morning. That's really cold for this Californian.
Cheers,

burrr!Anyhow, that is so cool I can't wait to try it!!! I love when my car does new tricks!
Hmmmmm.... all of this was in my owner's manual.
When our MINI was new, I kept the manual in the bathroom for a week or so, and read it pretty carefully, then, afterward, would run out to the garage and try out what I had read.

When i bought my Mini i remember the sales manager told me this was a programable option and you could choose between this option and the open trunk option (I may be wrong) i also remember he told me they program it this way because it is more useful
Interesting developments indeed. Out of curiosity, does anyone know whether you can program in an "all up" function by holding the button in the locking position that would have the same effect as turning the key in the lock and holding it so all the windows/sunroof close? I might ask the dealer when i go and get 39.2 installed (and i will make sure this doesn't rewrite the option previously installed)
After I tried twice to get my dealer to program this option (opening windows and sunroof by holding the lock toggle up), my dealer told me that for some reason unknown to them this option is not programmable on all MINIs.
They were not able to explain which MINIs. Mine is an August '03 build MC.

Elon,
This feature was on my CD Rom as well. That's where I first learned about it. However, after 4 different attempts at the dealer (Dreyer & Reinbold in Indy) to get this programmed, still no luck.

My '04 MCS has this feature enabled from factory (Hold up lock toggle swtich to open both windows) but the '02 Cooper CVT does not. However, the '02 has the "comfort opening" featured enabled, that is, press and hold the wings in the key for 5 seconds to remotely open both windows.
The '02 originally came with the infamous remote boot opening feature that never worked as intended (Early MINI owners should know what I am talking about).

Didn't work for me with the ignition on, either. Someone please post how to get this to operate, someone who had to get it programmed or whatever, to work. Sounds like some got 'lucky' and it worked without having to do anything. What about everyone else? I want this to work in my car.

News to me...I'll hafta try it!
