Today I've done a lot of things for mini at the shop.
Oil pan gasket
Crankshaft O-ring
all 4 struts assembly
LCA Polyurethane bushings
Power steering pump hoses replacement
Crank pulley (Craven speed) stock size
Serpentine belt
Oil change
Once they finish up the job and put all the parts back in and start up the engine, check engine light came on and it was P0036 and tried to clear the code but it didn't work..
I bought this car recently but i didn't notice how rusty this car was. this car is from east coast..I live in socal.. mechanics noticed right away about this car from east coast. there are rusts on the exhaust like the picture. i already been to muffler shop to replace the downstream o2 sensor with aftermarket one from amazon since the Code P0136 popped up when i used OBD scan tool. The muffler shop also welded on the left driver's side one but he said he can't be done perfect because it's rusty... He recommended me to get the new exhaust or get used stock one. Does the exhaust leak cause the Code P0036? Please advise.
You mentioned you had a muffler shop replace an O2 sensor. Did the problem go away after they did the work? (They were supposed to replace is the post car O2 sensor if it p0036)
Also, this car from all the research I read here, is very finicky about what brand of sensor you put in. You wrote that you bought one from Amazon. If it’s not the NTK brand, you have a higher probability of running into P0036.
On the exhaust. A popular remedy is the one ball mod. Look it up. Your exhaust appears to be a perfect candidate for this procedure. 😉

Yes they replaced with cheap o2 sensor part when code P0136 was scanned and it was gone once I cleared the code however, Once I finished all the jobs above and start the car, the check engine light came on and couldn't erase the code P0036 (different code)
Maybe you are right, I think it's because of cheap o2 sensor not oem one. Unfortunately one ball mod is too loud so I don't wanna get a $1000 ticket in socal.

Either way, both codes point to the post cat O2 sensor. Get the NTK/NGK 25648 and get it installed. How many miles are on the car? If over 100K miles, you may want to plan on replacing both 02 sensors (they are the same part numbers). The ones on my kid's car were replaced at 220K, however, I don't know if they were original or were replaced at some point in the past.
One ball is not that loud. Tone is different (deeper), but it's not obnoxious.
