Greenville SC Tour d'Lights

I love motoring around town looking at Christmas lights, don't you? So, why don't we make it a mini MINI event? Send me the address of a house whose owners have gone all out and decorated to the max. Get the address to me by Dec. 13. I'll put a route together and we'll meet up on Saturday, Dec 18 (location to be determined) and go on a Tour d'Lights .

Be sure to decorate your MINI in it's most festive holiday attire (Ahh ha ha ha "A-tire", get it?) and bring some wassail. We will go a'wassailing.

When I used to live in Spartanburg years back, we used to go to this

Begins

Thanksgiving Night and runs through
December 30, 2004

Take a spectacular drive through the natural setting of Roper Mountain Science Center to view more than 100 towering light displays, complemented by animation and whimsical landscape lighting. Feature attractions include a brilliantly illuminated 45-foot star, a drive through Tunnel-of-Lights, an animated snowball fight, and the rollicking candy cane lane. And you won't want to miss this year's newest and largest display, the Candy Cane Factory, complete with gears, smoke and candy canes in motion!
CARS - MINI VANS & SUVs - $10.00
ACTIVITY VANS -$15.00 BUSES -$20.00

Open every night 6:00 until 10:00 PM
This holiday event is sponsored by the
Rotary Club of Greenville and the
Roper Mountain Science Center Association.

Holiday Lights proceeds benefit Roper Mountain Science Center
and the Rotary Club of Greenville Charities.

It seems a bit more expensive then I remember. Maybe you can get a group discount. I wish I lived closer so I could join you all. Have fun.

Thanks Debi, but we went there last year {Trainman's DRL's blinded me!}. I am wanting to keep this a free event. No 'pay per view'. Gotta save the pennys for the wassail!

Let's be clear that this club (m2c2) does not condone the consumption of any alcoholic beverage in conjunction with driving, whether driving MINIs or SUVs, go-karts or Santa sleighs. I can only assume that in this message we're talking about "wassail" in some sort of holiday-like celebratory manner unrelated to the traditional alcoholic toast that is associated with the word "wassail"?

Right?

To quote Tweety's Dad:

was·sail (wsl, w-sl)
n.
  1. a. A salutation or toast given in drinking someone's health or as an expression of good will at a festivity.
    b. The drink used in such toasting, commonly ale or wine spiced with roasted apples and sugar.
  2. A festivity characterized by much drinking.
Post driving festivities is definately in order here...

From the e-mails that Tweety's Mom and I are exchanging, it looks like this motoring adventure is going to end up at my place!! We'll have Cincinnati chili ready when we get there...

We also have room for out of towners to crash (sleep) if you want to join us! All the accomodations of a 5 star resort. Movie theater, pool table, pinball, jacuzzi, and sorry, the pool is closed for the season, unless you like ice water!

I highly recommend Trainman's house. It's awesome. I plan to crash there cuz he's got so many cool toys (don't tell him I live only 20 minutes from his place!!)

Chili, huh? I'll bring the beano and cornbread. Who'll bring dessert?

No beans in Cincinnati Chili... However, if you have a 5 way, they're put on top.. Cincinnati chili is served over spagetti (2 way) with shredded cheddar cheese (3 way) or add onions (4 way). Oyster crackers or saltines are provided to add to the mix...

Greetings Friends.
The Tour D'Lights is coming up quickly and Trainman and I are making final preparations for a fun night. Trainman and Trainmama are going to open their home to entertain and feed us after the tour. To help them prepare enough food I need to give them some kind of head count. Sooooo, if you would pleeease be so kind and let us know if you're planning on attending, I would be ever so grateful. The tour is next Saturday (Dec 18). We will tour lights in the Greenville/Easely area, then go to Trainmans for Cincinnati Chili. If you have a favorite Christmas treat you would like to share, I'm sure we would all love to sample it!

I have a plan.... to show our appreciation to the homeowners who have worked so hard to put on a show for us, we should stand beside the road and sing "We Wish You A MINI Christmas, We Wish You A MINI Christmas, We Wish You A MINI Christmas, and a Happy New Year"

Hope to see you there

I'm in the process of working out a route from Century MINI to my place with plenty of lit houses to drive by.. It'll probably end up being a 45 to 60 min. tour, and we'll have to start after dark, probably around 6:00.

Bring your radios!!

We'll be meeting at Century MINI at 6:00. Trainman has been scouring the countryside and has mapped out a great tour for us. [Ain't he the greatest!? ] We will end the Tour D'Lights at his house where we'll partake of some of his and Trainmamma Cincinnati Chili, and mini cocktail snackies. They will have coffee, soft drinks, and tea. I will be bringing a veggie tray with the veggies cut into mini pieces. Please feel free to bring another side dish, but keep the mini theme going... mini garlic bread, mini chips, mini mousse.
Practice our theme carol - "We wish you a MINI Christmas, we wish you a MINI Christmas...."

Yeah, comon! You can crash here, plenty of room! Besides, we need a Miniyota (or is that a Toyocooper?) to add variety to the line up..

Thank you Trainman [and Trainmamma] for the two weeks that you spent canvassing the city and planning a terriffic Tour D'Lights route for us. It was GREAT The Cincinnati chili was yummy and the eggnog absolutely delish

Tiny Town was just as I remember it. nuff said.

WELCOME to our two newbies - Mark and Mary. We are absolutly delighted that you attended yesterdays tour and hope you will join us on future adventures. Please contact me via email [karen.williams@m2c2.org] so I can add you to my email list.

I was so busy having a good time that I totally forgot to take any pictures . Did anyone snap some shots other than Trainmamma?

Thank you again Trainman. You are definately 'Da Man'

Sorry guys, I would have been there, but I had a ton of stuff to do before the weekend. My candles totally flopped, so I had to bake Christmas presents! ACK!

Next event you plan Trainman, the variety car will show up! It was a hectic week after Gothic Santa visiting here!
