AEM CAI Heat Shield Worries 21-699c

Hey errybody,

First post, wanted to gather some info. I tried the forum search bar before considering floating this question, but couldn't really tack down an answer.

I installed AEM CAI intake system last week, and I've read that some members have had some issues running the provided heat shield and in turn melting their valve cover and the piping that's under that bad boy.
Can anyone else confirm that this has been an issue? Has anyone attempted running this system w/o the heat shield, and what impact did that have on the pretty plastic that the hood piece is made out of?
I want to get ahead of this, and modify the system in a way that is sustainable if neccessary. If not, I'm going to enjoy that extra 75 HP that a CAI provides a turbocharged system in contented peace.

Here's a link to the CAI system that I'm referring to:

Thanks,
Jason

It is a known issue with heat shields, but you can just leave your valve cover, cover off. You may or may not have bad enough heat that it hurts the valve cover itself and you'll likely cook the valve cover gasket sooner than expected.

If you go without the heat shield this will happen:

Thank you so much, exactly why I come here. I'm going to add a little heat tape to the hood scoop and remove that plastic cover. It gets hot here in New Mexico.

Thanks again

I ran the AEM intake for two years with the heat shield installed. Never caused a problem on my R56.

*OP missed that decimal between your 7 and 5 (intake may give a whopping 7.5hp on peak.. may)

If you want to keep temps down, get a K03 blanket to put on under the shield.
