"P" in Park staying lit for awhile...normal?

How long does the "P" in Park stay lighted after turning off the engine when parked? I'm still new to our 2015 CMS All4 and the darn light was on a long time last night...was concerned about draining the battery. I went back outdoors and lifted up the car cover to see it dark inside, so it did go out but why does it take so long?

Mine does that too, just what it does, I never worry about it. The ECU can stay active for I think around a half hour after you turn the car off. Have you ever noticed the fan can come on after getting out of the car? It’s normal and won’t kill your battery.

Thanks! I was hoping it was normal. We took Heidi out for a drive last night and I am really loving this Countryman! It's quick, handles well and it's quiet inside...the non-runflat 225/45/18 Michelin A/S tires probably help.....smooth ride as well. I even got a wave from a fellow MINI owner in an R56 tweeked out orange hardtop with lots of rally lights yesterday....smiles!

That’s great, I’m glad you’re loving your Countryman..... I see you have named it ...excuse me...her already. Bravo! Funny how a wave can totally brighten your day!
The run-flats are terrible, lol. I love to drive mine as well, it makes me grin like an idiot. Now you need to start customizing and personalizing it! Make it totally uniquely yours. And get in touch with Mariokart for a tune to really make her sing! ;-) Mine is waaay more....... willing and eager to move, heh heh.
Also in the lighting settings, you can adjust the length of time that the dome light and pathway lights stay on for. I have no clue if this also affects how long the light on the gear selector stays on for, but it might change that as well. Might be worth checking out if it really bugs you.
Have fun!!!
