OEM LSD - Swap the complete transmission assembly?

Hi all,

I found a guy that had a wrecked Mini (2007 MCS exactly as mine) relatively close to home and his transmission has the LSD. He still has not decided what to do with his totaled car but is willing to sell the LSD to me. We are just trying to figure out if I need to purchase the entire transmission assembly and swap it completely or just disassemble his and get the LSD to "transplant" into mine. Does anyone have any idea on how to proceed? I understand that both transmissions would have to be pulled out so labor costs are already factored in; the difference is that I would keep my own transmission (66k miles) instead of a more used one (100k miles). Thanks for any input!

easy to transplant it, all the real work is getting the transmission out; it's a lot of labor

If he is willing to sell the entire transmission i would just swap it over and keep yours as spare, after openning my transmission 16years old i was surprised its clean and no metal shaving in the magnet and only changed the trans oil once after i accidentally open the wrong drain plug.
And if you decided to buy and remove the LSD and put it in your own transmission can you please take a picture and post it so (i, we) can compare mine, i bought a used claiming it came from ‘05 JCW but i had doubt it is LSD.

Thanks for the replies. I will talk to the guy then and the deal will depend on how much he wants for the LSD or for the full transmission. It is a good idea to keep mine as a spare, mainly considering that I use the Mini for track duties. And I will certainly post pictures if we decide only to swap the LSD.
