Can glue etch car paint?

hi

a friend of a friend had a new windscreen fitted last year and there is glue around the edge of the plastic roof moulding on the paint work of the minis roof above where the windscreen was fitted and they asked me if this could damage the cars paint at all, any advice or help would be really helpful

thanks

Would think it would depend on what the glue is made of and the longer it sits there if there is any solvents in it.

hi, thanks ever so much for your help, I told my friend and they said that they think that it may actually be the rubber has stuck to the roof from the roof moulding trim, what would be a safe way to remove this or if it is glue how should they remove this?
