I’m in the process of buying a 2009 R56 Mini One for my daughter. The car is in great condition but like all Minis of this age with the basic air conditioning, the heater speed and temp controls are grey plastic and look worn and filthy.
It’s clearly a common issue as every car I looked at and every second hand heater control panel on eBay has the same issue.
So, any tips on either how to clean them, or has anyone got a good guide on how to refurbish them? I’m reasonably handy so if it’s a case of removing, sanding, painting and fitting I could do it, but would like the confidence boost of someone doing it successfully first!

Be careful with the rubbing alcohol. I cleaned it in place as well and I went over it too many times that the soft-touch/rubber coating came off with it. It's shiny plastic now but at least it's clean? (Side ***** are gray plastic, center **** is black plastic)
I do want to take it apart and paint it but it's so much work to get it out of the dash.
