Well I got my wife to test drive a 2015 CMS...results

At first I thought she was really enjoying herself, but she was actually petrified as the salesman was riding with us in the back seat. It made her nervous. She is hearing impaired so being in a good driving position with good visibility is important.

She experienced sport mode, a bumpy road with the runflats and overall power, stopping, etc. She had trouble with the cancelling of the turn signals but we who know MINIs understand that!

In the end the sport seats were not comfortable for her back & she thinks she needs to be higher like in her Jeep, so looks like no 2nd MINI for us.

I still want to put her in an F60 to see if she likes it better, but that’s gonna be more money. There are some great deals right now on barely used R60’s.

I liked the R60 as it was still a bit raw without all the electronics on the F60, and it has a dilstick & a CD player to boot! But the F60 is a complete redesign with the BMW engine, so......

I’ve read threads on the forums comparing the two - R60 vs F60 but if anyone has any more advice to offer please do post up.

Thanks!

We have had both

My wife has had a ‘11 Justa CM, a ‘15 CMs and now a ‘18 CMs. They are all great! TheF60 is a major change in a good way....much more comfortable ride and more room especially in the rear seat and trunk. The R60s are a more raw feeling car, which can be fun! Either way if going used have it checked out by a dealer...and a warranty from a dealer would be reassuring. Best of luck, and I hope you get to drive occasionally🤪!

I like the newer engine BMW like cars. The R60 is a bit rough. In your case why not stick with JEEP if that is what she likes?

We don’t want to dump the Jeep as we love it but it won’t last forever with 120k miles. Problem is the Jeep rides more like a truck whereas the Countryman S All4 is a crossover vehicle with a totally different feel and smaller than a Jeep, thus our research....plus, MINIs are fun to drive right?

We will likely at least try an F60 to see what she thinks and when the time comes & F60’s are coming off lease maybe we’ll bite! The R60 is indeed a bit too old school although I did enjoy the test drive....the N18 engine just gives me pause! The BMW turbo on a chassis exactly like on the BMW X1 & X2 is the way to go “if” we get another MINI!

Having both now for almost a year they each have there positives. I have been in PA for 3 months heading hack to WI to move the spousal unit and F60 this weekend.

For the drive from WI to PA the F60 would be my pick everyday. For my morning commute up and down 2,000 ft of mountain complete with switchbacks and rolling curves I would take the R60 every time. I have less than a year left with Lucy her extended maintenance and warranty expire next April and I have to trader her Before then.

Thanks for sharing....after researching both gens but only driving the R60 so far I am really conflicted! lol! The R60 just looks better imo and it’s raw just like I like it, but the F60 has the better engine no doubt although I believe the N18 Prince engine is fairly strong. I know the F60 is a better all around car but the color offerings are not that great honestly!...we both like the light coffee color with black interior....it’s a hard one, but in the end I think she belongs in a bigger vehicle that has more height similar to her Jeep Liberty. I’m leaning toward a nice slightly used X3 if we can find what we like....that’s always the tough part huh?

We both love a 2015 CMS Alll4 Light Coffee with 18” multi spoke silver wheels we found...I’ve been tempted to just buy it and have it shipped or fly out & drive it home! What a great impulse buy!...but probably more for me than her...I will get my MINI fix in my F56 JCW!...would be great to have two MINIs though!

Where in PA are you?

Ha, I have an R60 in light coffee. Mines a 2012 S All4, and even though I’ve had a few small and not-so-small issues (ordered a replacement turbo this morning) I absolutely love it! The rawness is part of what I like. I had a 2018 Countryman S for a loaner for a couple of days and it was really nice. But personally I like the R60’s a little bit more. The outer styling is gorgeous. And they redesigned the interior a bit, like square heater vents instead of round. And although the look is still similar, something just feels wrong to me not to have a functioning speedometer in the center of the dash there. Even with the navigation screen I still have a sweet speedo, lol. It’s mostly a personal choice, as everyone kind of does little things to make their Mini unique in some way. The F60 is a fantastic car, don’t get me wrong. And may have less issues than the R60’s do. But there’s just something about the look and feel of mine that I love just a little bit more! Good luck, they are a real blast to drive, and the All4 really makes it grip like crazy.

That’s exactly the kind of information I am looking for. I am learning a lot about Countryman’s, and although I know the pluses of the F60 my wife and I really like the Light Coffee color and I believe 2015 was the last year for that color. I’m back to loving the R60 again as there are some good buys out there on low mileage CMS All4’s! I know they are smaller but they look sooooo much better body proportion-wise it’s a no-brainer! So, I’m still looking! If I wait too long buying a nice one owner R60 CMS All4 that’s still under factory warranty this pluses disappear, so the hunt continues! ;-)

I got mine just out of warranty, so ..... but it’s still one owner, very well maintained with all service records. Plus it’s loaded with options that I wanted, and some I didn’t know I wanted but won’t live without now, like the heated seats. Luckily it was used for commuting. It has higher mileage than I would care for, they were pretty easy miles, and it was obviously cared for. So I’m very happy with it, even if I have to do a few things here and there. When I get my new turbo in and fix the oil leak they all seem to get, it wil be good as new! I’ve had it checked out by 2 local shops and Seattle Mini because I got paranoid after too much time on the forums, lol. And all is well except for my wastegate. Timing chain was done a while ago too, so I’m ok there for a while. In fact I love this thing so much it ridiculous! I love having a vehicle that puts a smile on my face every time I get behind the wheel, my R60 does that. Good luck with the hunt! Let us know what you end up getting.

Well Mr. Grumpy, we have purchased a nice 2015 Light Coffee Countryman S ALL4!!! We can’t wait to pick it up. It has low miles and almost 2 years warranty as a Certified Pre-Owned MINI so that’s a good thing. I will post up photos once we get it home!

We are officially a two MINI family now! ;-)
