Chrome Speedometer

Is the only way to get it on by taking off the whole dash? Disassembling that whole thing seems kinda scary to me.

For the speedo the chrome ring is usually stuck on with adhesive. You peel off the backing on the ring and apply the ring to the speedo to trim the edge in chrome. No disassembly needed. Is yours different from this?

Note speedo has chrome ring around edge-

Other chrome trim pictures- all adhesive backing for easy mounting

Yeah, the one sold thru MINI replaces the entire trim ring. It can just be ripped off.

Most were are unable to rip off the ring. Go ahead and try to pry it off, making sure not to scratch any of your plastic. Most are held in with clips and glue now.

You do not need to take apart the entire dash, just the middle part around the speedo. It's not all that hard really.

I agree with jwardell, it's not as hard as it sounds. theres just a panel acess on either side of the dash you just need to be careful and ease the panel out, don't force it too much. and the rest is screws and balance. I did mine in a matter of 10 minutes including time to print the instructions. You'll do fine

for real chrome

Look at minispeed.co.uk, they cary a nice chrome bezel kit.

I purchased the oem chrome bits and ordered the tach bezel from minispeed.
I installed all the oem chrome parts, the speedo was the hardest. I ended up having to brake it very carefuly to not scratch anything. It went well and looks great, I'm still waiting for the tach bezel and a carbon fibre hand brake handle. It's coming together nicely.
