I can"t for the life of me figure out how the rear speaker grills attach on a 2006 MCS convertible. I am getting a vibration from the rear speakers. The grills are loose and move, but at the same time I am afraid to forcefully remove them and risk breaking them (it seems that every time I touch anything made of plastic on this car it breaks in my hands) Are there clips? It's a h/k system if that makes a difference.
I had the same problem in my R52, the vibrations were due to the loose grill. However, the grill was loose because the gray plastic ring had a broken tab (how that happened I have no idea). I ended up just pulling the metal grill out and saving it until I found a replacement gray ring, which I never did.
My back up plan was to reinstall the metal grill and find some adhesive to reattach the gray plastic.
The rear speaker grill has pegs that go into holes in the side panel, and the pegs are secured on the other side with a press-on fastener that BMW calls a Circlip. Not surprised that it could work itself loose eventually. To get to it properly is a bit of a chore. You'd have to remove the rear seat and the entire side panel. Maybe you could just securely glue the grill to the side panel.
Those things are a pain, and I have seen a bunch of R52's with the rear speaker grille missing.
Just push those circlips on tight and make sure the speaker grille does not rattle. I have to do mine, the foam disintegrated and the grille rattles. I glued mine and it held for some time then it rattled again.
