Just for fun, I went back to the MINI-USA site and configured a MCS with every possible upgrade option, including all of the accessory items listed in their new "step 5". Installation of some items like the Aero kit and rally lights would be extra, but the final price came out to be:

$32624

Price does not include T-shirt of stuffed bulldog mascot. . . .

Interesting.......$33K
Now here's my proposal...imagine if we could buy a $45K MINI.
What!!!!!!!....why would you want that ....!!!!
With a ....200+ HP engine...and all interior/exterior components ...made of real materials...NO PLASTIC stuff.!!!!!!
I would have the stereo already installed that ......allot of people are trying to upgrade too.
It would have a dashboard/console...that was real brushed aluminum.....
It would have super-doooooper chargers....better quality exhaust, air intake, and braking systems...etc...etc...
Windshields that don't crack, seats that don't fall apart, leather that doesn't crinkle, overflow tanks that don't leak.....etc....etc.....
I luv my MCS...don't get me wrong
A great majority of the posts here are: ..." did this ever happen to you?????".or "does your mini do this?????"
IMHO opinion all this is do to poor quality materials...that are part of this 20-25K car, and sometimes the additional combination of poor production.
MCS's all had a cold start issue...and the fix took...minimum of 3 months....to resolve.
Let's say you bought a brand new TV...and it would only go on......the 2nd or 3rd time you pushed the power button...Now....how long would you keep that TV?????
All these problems are" fixable" so....that is truly the saving grace of this kewl auto.....
BUT!!!!!
IMAGINE....the possibilities.
A $45K MINI...would be....a machine to be revered!!!!!!!

Peace,
D

I'd be in line for one of those, but I think it could be done for much less than 45K.

a lot of other automobile websites have the same questions. it isn't just the MINI. try going to vwvortex.com once and see all of those complaints. thankfully we have a site where we can compare notes. $45 is a bit steep for me, but i'd love to see the wiz-bang induction you were talking about!

A base model MCS that started at 25-30k would be amazing. All they would have to do is just make everything a little bit nicer. I would buy it, that is for sure.

You guys think $40K is high?

My Sharona, as configured in my sig below is about $38,000 Cdn. (plus taxes, etc.). Our Premium Pack doesn't include the sunroof. That's another $1,300 or so. The only advantage is the Cold Pak stuff is included in the basic car here. Except (I think) for the heated mirrors. I should know soon, if BMW releases my car from bondage!

The MINI is the smallest luxury car available in Canuckland.

Now I know where "eh" came from.
Canadian Min salesman..."That'll be $38,000.00."
Canadian Mini customer...."eh?"

Those darn canadians with their funny Canadian dollars!

I have a strong suspicion that they enjoy all of that free government paid-for health-care because they have a racket going in which they use their lower-valued coins in American vending machines.

Nah. That isn't it. They transport cans and bottles across
the border and collect the deposit on the US side.
Anything for a free hernia repair.

Hang on - we don't have lower value coins!

In fact the joke is:

Question: "Do you have any change?"
Answer: "Sure, I'm Canadian!".

Our pockets bulge with change. We don't have dollar bills anymore - we have dollar coins - called a Loonie ('cause there's a loon - a stupid looking bird) on the coin.

And, although it may sound strange to you Yanks, we used to have a two dollar bill - now it's gone, replaced by a two dollar coin called, you guessed it - a Toonie.

Within a few years the government's intention is to replace the five dollar bill with a coin. Try going through a metal detector at an airport with all that loose coinage. We'll never be able to leave the damn country to fool your vending machines.

On the other hand, the Toonie is pretty cool looking - we've been able to sell them for 5 or 10 bucks below the 49th parallel!

As to the price of a loaded MCS - here's a comparison. A well-loaded Nissan Pathfinder SUV is around $45,000 Cdn. Is that a a$20,000 vehicle in the good ol' USofA? I dunno - but we certainly don't feel like the MCs and MCSs are budget priced. They're considered a fairly high-priced vehicle for their size - and apparently size matters in things vehicular.

Instead of having MINI do all the work. Maybe someone or some company can pick it up and do all the options you are talking about, uping the price to the mid 40s. I'm talking about people like John Cooper, Stillen and Shelby who did the Mustang, Coswell did the Corvette, and RUF did the Porche. (There are more I can't think of.) They took an already fine car and made it better. That way the new and improved car is out there for the ones with the dough, and the factory Cooper and Cooper S can still be affordable for us "po folk".

I just got my MCS last week and paid $42,000 drive away including all on road costs. Bargained pretty hard and got $3000 off. Sticker price drive away is around $45,000. It was with out a doubt the best money I've ever spent. I was planning a month long 5 star trip to the USA, bought the Mini instead, so I guess I'll start saving again for the US trip though I think I'll have to downgrade to cheaper hotels rather than the 5 star stuff we wanted to do. Hey maybe I could just rent an Aztek. You know the whole fold out tent thing. Man I hate that car!!!!

Perhaps I can just bum around sleeping on the lving room floors of MCO members.
Hey trust me I drive a Mini!!! I won't chop you up in the middle of the night, I wouldn't be able to fit your body in the trunk anyway.
