R98 Wheel Surprise

Sometimes you just have to wonder why previous owners did what they did. Recently I started hearing a thumping sound around one of the wheels on my clubby. It sounded like the CV joint so I replace it and the sound persisted. Finally I figured out all of the bolts holding the two piece wheel together had come loose. I started tightening them and then one bolt snapped. It turned out to be plastic. Kept going and another one snapped. It was also plastic. Keep going and then a third one snapped. In looking at the empty holes they are all filled with epoxy. So now I'm in the hunt to find a replacement wheel. While I have been driving the car without a wheel issue since I purchased it, it's time to replace the bad one - if I can find a decent one.

Use a magnet, maybe the whole wheel is plastic. Nah, maybe aluminum.

They are not real 2 piece wheels would be my conclusion. I bet you they are the knockoff aftermarket ones. Those bolts likely have nothing to do with your problem.
