R50/53 opening trunk with no battery?

opening trunk with no battery?

howdy all. embarrassed to ask this...but I had to take the battery out to replace it. left the trunk open just a bit. somehow it shut all the way. not sure how to unlock the trunk so I can put the battery back in. 2004 Cooper S. hardtop. Thanks!

there's an emergency pull handle under the back seat. Grab the front lip at the bottom of the seat and lift ... it will pop up and you should find a yellow plastic handle / or a black ring .. I've seen both

Note early 02 did not have this ... it came later and there was no 'recall' to retrofit. My 02 did not have nor did it get added.

or

You could also hook up a set of jumper cables to the 'jump connection' in the engine compartment .... giving power to open the boot

or

it is possible to fold the seats (even if the parcel shelf is in place) and get the battery in place .... been here and done it!

Check out this video. He blabbers on a bit, but gets to the point at about the 2:30 mark.

Thanks so much! Lifted up that rear seat. Pulled the loop. Pushed on the hatch window and boom. Good to go. New battery installed. Now off to change the wheels/tires. Have a great Sunday y'all.

Not all cars have the manual boot release though, but it is a quick and cheap retrofit for those without it.

We've got them in stock!
